LiDAR Workbench™
With the continual improvements in LiDAR technology and data processing techniques, high resolution (~1 metre) Digital Elevation Models (DEM) are now becoming available for detailed GIS analysis such as hydrological modelling, urban management, and shoreline monitoring.
Gaiamatics Solutions is currently developing a stand-alone LiDAR processing software package, LiDAR Workbench, that allows the user to produce 2D and 3D GIS layers from LAS data files. Numerous tools within the product allow users to classify and grid their data both manually and through automation.
At present, LiDAR Workbench has the following capabilities:
- Organize LAS data into spatial tiles (typically 1 km x 1 km in size).
- Build shapefiles of LAS tile extents.
- Convert LAS data points into Shapefile format.
- Identify isolated & low (erroneous) points within LAS data files.
- Reassign points from one class to another.
- Classify points based upon return (echo) number.
- Classify ground points, allowing the creation of bald earth DEMs.
- Classify points based upon height from ground surface.
- Classify points by absolute elevation.
- Create surface grids using either Inverse Distance Weighted (IDW) or linear Triangulated Irregular Network (TIN) interpolation.
- Create seamless mosaics from multiple grids.
- Produce pulse intensity images from LAS point data.
- Create greyscale and colour shaded reliefs of surfaces.
LiDAR Workbench is currently in development & testing. Please contact us if you are interested in participating in our Beta-Testing programme.
