ObliqueMapper: How it Works

Feature Digitizing

After absolute orientation of the photographs has been achieved, the data collection, or digitizing, process may begin.

Although more complex geometric features such as lines and polygons can be collected using ObliqueMapper™, the fundamental shape is the vertex (i.e. single 3D point). Any location that can be clearly identified within two or more photographs (such as the trunk of a tree) can be marked, or digitized, as a vertex.

When a location is identified, the absolute orientations of all the photographs involved are used to compute a real-world 3D coordinate using a process much like triangulation. Once computed, an estimate of the vertex's accuracy is displayed and can be used to assess the quality of the point.
